DesCan "Human Designed" Campaign
Writers working in communications, marketing, and advertising are generally horrible allies. We hardly talk to one another; like if we bump into a writer we know, the conversation invariably goes, "Hey, how you doing? How's life? Doing any interesting work?" "Hey there! Oh yeah. Busy. Busy, busy, busy. All kinds of stuff. Big campaign things. You'll see 'em when they launch."
Apparently, we're fearful that we'll poach each other's clients. Which is ludicrous, really. Clients taste TERRIBLE poached.
When I had the opportunity to work with DesCan (the Design Professionals of Canada) on a social-focused campaign two years ago, I lept. I've always loved collaborating with art directors and designers. Recently, this has led to a collaboration on DesCan's new initiative (completely aligning with my own beliefs), the Human Designed mark.
From DesCan: DesCan is constantly advocating on behalf of Canadian designers. Many designers are worried that they will lose work to generative AI. Some already have. But we’re also seeing a trend of people valuing human creativity and hungry for things made by human minds, hands, and souls.
We see this shift as a competitive advantage for professional designers. To that end, we’re announcing a new initiative that will help Canadian designers label their work as Human Designed and will help employers and clients easily identify human design work.
